Hi, I'm Emily.

Brock and Lindsey first met in the fall of 2008 at Performance Health & Fitness, where Brock is the General Manager and Lindsey is a fitness instructor. Lindsey had heard from friends that there was a cute, charming guy who was new to the area and was working at Performance. Lindsey built up the courage to finally introduce herself to Brock, agreeing with her friends that he was really cute. This was the start of their relationship.

Over the next few months, Lindsey worked hard at getting Brock’s attention, inviting him to dinner with friends, having him come over to help “fix” things around her condo, and going out of her way to make conversation with him at the gym. That spring, Lindsey brought her parents to the gym to see where she was working part-time and, more importantly, to check out Brock and gain their approval! At the time, Brock was oblivious of the crush that Lindsey had developed on him so he proceeded to maintain his single status and Lindsey grew tired of his stubbornness.

Over the course of the summer, Brock and Lindsey became better friends from working at the gym and also played on a softball team together. Brock began to pick Lindsey up each week for their game, creating the idea to all their friends that they were dating. However, they were really “just friends” until that fall when Brock began to make his move.

Their perspectives vary slightly as to when they started officially dating. Brock began calling Lindsey often and asking if she would like to hang out. But confusion lay in that when Lindsey would invite Brock over to hang out or watch a movie, he would show up dressed up ready for his “date” while Lindsey lounged comfortably in her sweats, not knowing that it was supposed to be a date. This didn’t deter him though, and Brock cued in to Lindsey’s interests and even developed a strong interest in a Payton family love…UNI volleyball.

Brock continued working very hard in his own way, but it wasn’t until January of 2010 that he realized he was getting somewhere.  Lindsey called after Christmas, and invited Brock over to help her Dad set up the new TV she received. By the time Brock got there, her Dad had already set up the TV so Brock contributed by programming the remote control and thus programming another great step in their relationship.

Brock quickly recognized how important Lindsey’s job at Oaknoll Retirement Residence was to her so when the time came, he couldn’t think of a better place to propose to her. With help from Laura, Lindsey’s friend from Oaknoll, and several of Lindsey’s favorite residents, he “carved” his way into Oaknoll lore on Halloween 2011.

Lindsey was at Oaknoll hosting a Halloween party for her residents, making sure everyone was having a good time, and also thinking, “Wow, there are sure a lot of people here for the Halloween party this year.”  Near the end of the party, a co-worker of Lindsey asked her to judge a very special pumpkin carving contest among a few of the residents.  Lindsey was confused and also a bit displeased to be put under the pressure of picking a winner among her beloved residents’ pumpkins.

Lindsey reluctantly sat down as 4 of her favorite residents came in with pumpkins held tightly to their chests.  On the count of three, all 4 residents turned their pumpkins around to be visible to Lindsey and the pumpkins were carved with these words: “Lindsey…will…you….marry”, and as the last pumpkin was displayed, Lindsey was spun around in her chair to see Brock on one knee with one last pumpkin that read “Me?” Lindsey was so surprised she nearly choked out her response “Yes!” [See the video of Brock’s proposal here!]

It was a day that neither of them will ever forget. From the hours spent carving pumpkins to Lindsey’s wonderful Halloween costume (Velma from Scooby Doo), it was a proposal that was very memorable and special.

Brock and Lindsey enjoy an active, fun-filled relationship. They love playing softball and volleyball together, traveling, taking their annual bicycle ride, The Tour de Cure (an American Diabetes Association fundraising event), participating in adventure races such as The Warrior Dash, and raising 2 dogs (Zoey & Zeke). Whether it is work, play, or recreation, they have fun with whatever they do and are truly a perfect match.

Gah, I just love her laugh!

Oooh la la. I adore this one.

They will be married this July at the Amana Golf Course, a setting perfect for their love of nature and recreation. I am truly looking forward to their wedding day and know it will be a perfect combination of them: fun, unique, beautiful, and sweet.
