Hi, I'm Emily.

A year ago, I missed Kevin’s birthday because my car broke down and I couldn’t drive to Iowa City to meet up with everyone for supper. He gave me a hard time for weeks about not being there with everyone to celebrate. This year, things changed. I was there. Or, to be more accurate, he was here.

He came on Saturday and spent the next 8 days with me. It’s hard to imagine loving him more, but somehow, every moment I spend with him, I do. We spent Saturday catching up and watching a movie. Sunday, we went to the Blue Jackets game and I jumped every time the cannon shot off. Kevin laughed at me every time I jumped. It was a really fun game to be at because it was tied 4-4 at the end, causing an overtime and then, woo-hoo!, a shoot out! I’ve always wanted to see a live shoot out. Now I have.

Monday, I went to work, but got sick and went home early. Kevin made me food and babied me. He fixed me tea and fed me medicine. He should be a doctor. I would pay him to be my doctor, but, lucky for me, he provides my medical services for free.

Tuesday was Kevin’s birthday and I was sick so I didn’t make it to work, but it ended up being okay because I got to spend time with him. He was so nervous to open his present, but the first one proved to be okay (it was a wallet). When he opened up the wallet though and saw the paper inside telling him to go look under my bed for the rest of his gift, he refused and tried to make ME go get it. In the end, the Wii gave us a lot of entertainment and good times throughout the rest of the week. When I was working during the day, Kevin improved his golfing, bowling, and shooting scores. When I got home at night, I tried to kick his butt, but only managed to beat him a couple of times.

Anyway, the rest of the week was amazing, of course, despite the fact that I remained sick throughout the week. Kevin was amazing and didn’t care when I sneezed and coughed and blew my snot everywhere. He didn’t even mind when my voice left and I had to whisper everything. He didn’t care that I started bawling over everything little thing or even nothing at all. If I am going to be sick, there’s no one else I would rather be sick with, that’s for sure. We spent Thanksgiving at Carla’s house, complete with turkey, cracker fluff, and Dutch Blitz. On Saturday, we went shopping and went to the worst movie of 2007. The only good part about it was that for the rest of the day, we cracked ourselves up with quotes from it. (Even today, I called him and said, “Honey, can you hear the music? You’ll find me.” Haha.)

Sunday morning I woke up, still coughing, sneezing, wheezing, and crying, but this time, I had to take Kevin to the airport and he couldn’t stay to baby me and make me feel better. My only consolation in waving goodbye to him through the security gates is that I will see him again in 25 days. Twenty-five days feels like forever, but we’ve made it before; we’ll make it again.

It doesn’t change this fact: I miss him.
