Allow me to preface this by saying that I hate talking about politics. No, I will not tell you who I voted for because that is my personal choice and right. What this post is about is not about who you voted for so much as if you even understand what you voted for.
I am so over all this voting nonsense; all this right-wing, left-wing, democrat, republican, elephant, donkey, red, blue stuff. I’m over it because I am disturbed with how naive many voting Americans are. I was talking about this with Kevin last night and we’re on the same page: people should have to take a test in order to be able to vote. Everyone has to take a test prior to getting a driver’s license. Why not for voting? It would be something similar to a basic 7th-grade Government class. Sadly, people applying for US citizenship know more about our country than those of us who were born and raised here.
I don’t care how you voted. Quite frankly, it doesn’t matter anymore because we have a new President-elect whom we should all give our support to whether we did or did not vote for him. Regardless, this is my bone to pick about voting. Vote for a cause. Don’t vote because you’re ignorant and are swayed by emotion. Don’t vote because someone is “cool.” Cool doesn’t run a country. Do you know what brought this on? Someone was talking to me about their choice in Presidents and honestly thought that both McCain & Obama would be in office, just that one would be the President and whoever lost would become the Vice President. This person voted on Tuesday.
I have compiled some basic questions that I think should be on a standard voter’s test. If you cannot answer these correctly, you should study up in the next 4 years. I’m not even kidding.
