Hi, I'm Emily.
I don’t know how it started, but several weeks ago, Kevin & I decided to try our hands at Scrabble. We went to Target and spent a good 15 minutes trying to decide whether we would buy the regular edition or the deluxe edition. We finally decided on the regular edition. We came home, set up, and went to work.
It’s been a pretty tough battle. Kevin has a more competitive edge and after I beat him in the very first game, he’s come back with big words and smart placements. I’m no word dummy though and I at least give him a good run for his money.
Tonight was a particularly fierce battle with Kevin taking the lead after putting “zen” on a triple letter score for the “z” (30 points). At the very end, I came back with a thrilling triple word score which put me in the slight lead, only by 4 points. Kevin had one letter left; I had two. He somehow figured out a placement and ended up beating me by only 1 point.
Disappointing? For me, yes. My brain feels exercised though! Based on our points, we’ve made it finally into the “expert” levels, getting over 200 points each per game. Call us nerds, but we love a good Scrabble game. We have decided that we need to invest in the deluxe version after all. It has a swivel table to rotate the board and a clear plastic cover to keep the letters firmly in place on the board. Plus, it comes in a deluxe plastic carrying case and who wouldn’t want that???
Oh my gosh. You guys are nerds for sure! But at least you’re exercising your brains. I will admit that I do enjoy a good game of scrabble, but the carrying case seems somewhat excessive for me. You can always get a cheap-o lazy susan and put your game on that and spin away. (and in my head, I’m picturing all the letters flying in every direction!) Maybe the deluxe version isn’t such a bad idea after all.
