Back months and months ago, I registered for wedding gifts at Bed, Bath & Beyond. In the process, I spotted the most delightful gift I could imagine: a cake stand! I had to have it. Needless to say, we did not get the cake stand for our wedding, but we got enough gift cards, that I bought it and brought it home with great joy as I made a great demonstration of showing Kevin how it works. (Not only is it a cake stand with a dome, but it can also convert upside-down into a clever punch bowl–no lie!!) Since we also got two 9-inch round baking pans for wedding gifts, I have started making layered cakes to eat and I proudly display them on my cake stand.

Now, I’m no Melanie Miller (local cake genius and happens to be my family as well), but I am still rather proud of my cute little cake that I made tonight. I consider this a special feat too because I don’t have any cake decorating tools so I had to fashion my frosting bags out of Zip-Locks with the corners snipped off. Step aside, Duff. Who’s the cake guy now?

P.S. This photo was taken on my Blackberry and really doesn’t do the cake justice, but oh well. It’s also delicious, which is a contributing factor to its greatness.
