Hi, I'm Emily.

While I am a clumsy person in general, I had so far managed to remain on my feet while running. That is, until this morning. I had just gotten to the corner where the bike trail starts and I slowed down to wait for a stop in traffic flow so I could cross the street onto the trail. Just as there was a break in cars, I started running, but did not think about the curb and managed to trip, seemingly mid-air, on my left foot and started falling straight for the road. (I felt like Sid in the first Ice Age movie where he’s trying to take the last melon and is moving slow-motion, football style then, smack, lands on his face and breaks the melon into pieces.) I couldn’t catch myself because I had my phone in one hand and my iPod in the other.

I don’t know how it happened, but with my face about 1 foot above the ground, my right foot caught pavement and my knee dug into my chest and I righted myself just in time to bust a move across the road. For the next mile I couldn’t stop smiling because I thought the image of me falling must’ve been the funniest thing that those drivers had seen in a while.

No injuries were noted, although for the past several weeks, I’ve noticed a clicking sound in my left ear when I run. If there are any otolaryngologists who follow my blog, give me some insight into what might be happening. I told Kevin that I have a broken bone in my ear, but he said I have no bones in my ears so I think I have broken cartilage. This is all self-diagnoses though so who really knows?

Peace, morning humidity, and BNL’s “Falling For The First Time.”

I know. In retrospect, I suppose that probably means that I care more about my electronics than my face.

Except if the song were really appropriate, it would be more like "nearly falling so many times". As horrified as I was at the idea of you falling onto the street in front of approaching traffic, the fall itself had to be a funny site. At least you didn't drop your phone or ipod.

Ah-hah! I knew I have bones in my ears!!! Thank you, Jenna! Now for a diagnosis????

  4. Jenna says:

Oh no… Falling in public is my No. 1 fear. No. 2 is jogging in public. So, you are very brave indeed! 🙂 As for bones in ears – yes, you have three very tiny bones in your inner ears, but I'm pretty sure you can't break them by running!
