Hi, I'm Emily.
Today Kevin came up with the [great] idea of going to the Palisades-Kepler State Park and taking a hike on a trail. The weather was absolutely gorgeous! Neither of us have ever been to this state park before so we didn’t know where the trails were or what to expect. (Also, I should’ve printed out a map ahead of time–tip for the next time.)
We parked the car and walked around for a while before finally finding the start of a trail. Luckily, Kevin has some strange google gps thing on his phone so we knew our coordinates at all times. Let me just say, if you have small children or any children at all, most of these trails are not for you!! I didn’t expect them to be so hard, but at some points, it was like climbing 4-inch wide stairs made of rocks in the side of a small (but very, very steep) mountain. As if going up didn’t just kill my thighs, going down was almost more dangerous because I had to kind of walk sideways to avoid slipping to my death. There were actually parts of the trail marked that one had to have a climbing license of some kind to be on it.
Kevin was debating as to whether he should walk down in front of me or behind me. His reasoning was that if I fell and he was in front of me, he could stop my fall, but if I was in front of him and he fell, he would just take us both down. Also, he claimed that he was practically a mountain goat and that I shouldn’t be surprised by this since he proved to be a fish in Mexico as well. Apparently, he has a lot of animal qualities. The best of all though was when I was scrambling up the steep rocky incline trying to hold on to tree roots to keep me upright and he told me, “Channel your inner m.g.” (mountain goat) Bahahah, as if.
Ha ha–I was laughing as I was reading this, trying to picture Kevin as a mountain goat, and the thought of both of you trying to climp up & down these steep trails. Thanks for the laugh!
