Hi, I'm Emily.
According to my new coach/schedule on my iPod, today was my day to run. (I’m not on a daily schedule anymore.) The first problem was that I overslept so that pushed my run out of the early morning heat to the after-work swelter. Regardless, I was amping myself up for this run all day because this was the first official day that I had to run more than my comfortable 2.75 miles. I got home, downloaded my song of the month (“I’ve Got A Feelin'” by Black Eyed Peas), put on my running shorts and took off.
I had previously mapped out a route online that would give me just a little extra distance without being too over-the-top. (The worst thing to do is to set a goal and over-shoot it and make yourself hate what you’re trying to love.) I did the smart thing by taking the extra streets first and then finishing the run with my normal route.
I have found that running is a 90% mind game. I can make myself run faster if I specifically think about putting my foot further ahead of me and kicking up my back leg a little more. I can make myself run further if I specifically think of anything except running. Today, I was having a hard time with both. That being said, I was shocked beyond belief when I [finally] got back home and found out that my average pace was 9’47″/mile!!
The funniest part of my run? At the very end, someone on my iPod congratulated me for setting a record pace and she had a British accent so I could not understand her very well and I thought she said her name was Polaroid Cliff. I went inside and asked Kevin who Polaroid Cliff was. He didn’t know. It was bothering me so much that I googled around for a while and finally figured out that it was Paula Radcliffe who congratulated me. Bahahahaha!!!! Polaroid Cliff. I’m a dork.
OK, another funny thing is that asa result of this post, I actually had a dream involving Paula Radcliffe, AND (no shock here) in the dream I was confused that her name was polaroid cliff.
