I lie in bed at night and can’t sleep sometimes. Okay, most nights I lie there trying to fall asleep. Once I’m asleep, I’m dead to the world even long past the time I’m up and out of bed the next morning. (Just because I’m moving around does not make me coherent!) Sometimes when I am waiting for sleep to come, I think up new ideas. This was what I came up with last night…
Problem: making hard-boiled eggs without having the pot boil over and still keeping the water at a boiling temperature.
Solution: Boil the eggs in a teapot!! I tried it this morning and it was magical. I mean, this really, honest-to-goodness works! I put six eggs in my tea pot, covered them with water and set the stove on high. Once the whistle started blowing (and, boy, is it loud and obnoxious!), I turned the heat down to a medium-low and let it just simmer away for 6 minutes. Wah-lah! At the end of 6 minutes, I used a tongs to get the eggs out and let them cool. They were perfect.
Finally, I used my sleepless nights for something good!
