As you may know, there’s some division in our small family of two. Kevin is a Hawkeye fan; I am a Buckeye fan. Neither of us is willing to change teams.
And so it’s here: the day when we don our opposing team shirts and cheer against each other. I’ve got the tickets in hand and my OSU hoodie ready to go. Would it be tacky to take my OSU snuggie to the game? Hah! Don’t tempt me; I am just tacky enough to do it.
Ironically, on our big rivalry game day, Kevin is also celebrating his birthday. He asked me several months ago if I would cheer for Iowa as his birthday present. I said, “No way.” I’ll make him a cake instead or something equally delicious, but I won’t switch teams no matter what day of the year it is.
Happy game day! I’m hoping to find some other scarlet-shirted fans to yell, “O-H” to. The glorious echo back is music to my ears: “I-O.” Go Buckeyes!
