I had to run to Kalona on Monday to pick up my tripod, which I had left at the wedding on Saturday. As I drove by my brother’s house, I spotted my adorable nieces and nephew out by the sidewalk with a lemonade stand. I pulled over right there on the street (possibly illegally parking in front of a stop sign) and went over to get myself something to drink.
Admist all of the hubbub of, “What are you doing here?”, “Aunt Emily!”, and “We have a lemonade stand”, Kylie said, “Would you like one glass or two glasses?” She’s a master upseller. I only wanted one, but I paid for 4 on the stipulation that they shared their profits.

In the blazing heat index of 107, their lemonade was top-notch. I asked them what their business hours were and Hogan said that they were open from 12:30 to 5:30. In that heat, I suggested maybe they should close early and take a break.
Before I left, I asked what they were going to do with all of their lemonade money. Hogan wisely answered, “Well, we have to save some to buy more ingredients…” Ahhhh, the makings of a true businessman.
I love these kids.
