- I have lately been sucked into the Oldies music. Right now, I’m a sucker for Etta James, The Jackson 5, The Five Satins, The Outfield, The Ronettes, Marvin Gaye, Chicago, etcetera. It’s such a fun switch from my normal radio music. And why is every song so awesome?? I picture big hair, acid-washed jeans, scrunchies, and leather cropped jackets.
- The other night Kevin and I had a discussion about what time period we would live in if we had the choice. Without hesitation, I said the ’20s. There is just something about that post-war, Roaring Twenties, jazz age era that intrigues me. Clearly, Kevin and I are sooooo different. He said that he would choose modern day, right now, but he would be rich like Tony Stark with technology that doesn’t even exist yet. In that case, I want to be Grace Kelly.
- I’ve had the privilege of catching a few really great books lately. I was going through a dry spell where I’d pick up a book, but it wouldn’t hold my interest. These recent ones have captured me, absolutely captured me. One of them is “Divergent” by Veronica Roth, but the other one–the one that has left a very deep, lasting impression on me–is “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green. I highlighted so many quotes in this book that you would think I was studying for finals. But, really, I just wanted to remember every last piece of it, in all of its raw, sad, and humorous words. (Quick brief: Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.) I kept some of my favorite quotes on GoodReads and, even now, thinking about the book, I feel both sad and happy, broken and inspired.
- The Hunger Games comes out in exactly 1 week. I AM SO EXCITED. I automatically start smiling every time the trailer plays on TV. (And just in case you haven’t seen it yet, click here.) May the odds be ever in your favor.
