She had just returned from France where she was getting hands-on practice with her foreign language studies. He was neck-deep in dental school. Neither of them were interested in a blind date. Finally, amid their mutual friend’s pleadings, they decided to meet in a group of friends, still refusing to be the subjects of a potentially awkward blind date. That group dinner turned into a coffee study date where they spent more hours talking than studying. And within one month, they knew. They knew this connection they had was something to treasure, to protect, to nurture, and to allow to blossom.
Early this year, Rob spent a few months in London doing a dental externship and Cat joined him for several weeks while she was on winter break here in the U.S. They had long talked about getting married and had, in fact, already picked out a date and a ring, but he convinced her the proposal would have to wait for the jeweler to finish the ring, which would mean not until he got back from London. On her first night in London with him, they had planned a fun date with dinner and a show. Afterwards, they walked to Hyde Park and there, among the sprawling acres of royal park landscape, he presented the ring (which, in fact, had been completed) and the invitation to join him in this journey of life.
