I absolutely love that I live in a digital age. The internet has made the world a smaller place and, as a result, I am lucky to have friends all over the globe.

Serena is a wedding photographer and owner of Love by Serena, based out of Maryland. We first met at WPPI 2012. Her husband and her flew into Des Moines a few weekends ago for a wedding and she messaged me to see if we could meet up. After some schedule-checking, we met last Monday in Newton for lunch. We’re photographers so it just so happened that we both had our cameras along, identical mates by the way with our 5D Mark III’s and 50mm lenses.

I’d never been to Newton before so I was pleasantly surprised to find a darling little town! We ate lunch and then wandered around for a bit swapping out taking photos of each other. We also found out that our lives are surprisingly similar in so many ways, even down to long-distance dating our now-husbands whom we married less than 6 months apart.

Let me just insert here that it’s so refreshing being able to talk business with other business owners who understand the ins and outs of the wedding industry coupled with business ownership. I’ve been feeling really blessed to have some great photography friends.
