They jokingly quote Rhianna, saying they found love in a hopeless place. But, really, who expects to go into the cell phone store and meet their future spouse? “We met at a Sprint Store here in Omaha. My phone had broken and so I needed a new one. Trent helped me and while I was there we ended up chatting the whole time. As I was leaving, he gave me his business card and told me to call him if I needed anything. (I still have the business card.) He texted me a few days later and we went on our first date a week after that.”
But it may not have gone quite as smoothly as that had Trent not spotted her in line. “I saw this cute girl next in line so I made sure I was the one to help her,” he says.
They both say they knew very early on that this was the real deal. “From our first date, I had a strong feeling about him. He is just different, in all of the best ways. He values friendship and is a loyal friend. He prioritizes family and he is so great with all 7 of his nieces and nephews. I don’t know if it was truly one specific moment for me or just a collection of moments-big and small. Trent has the kindest heart. He is so thoughtful, he is incredibly patient, and he is my calm to any storm in life,” Jean Louise says.
Trent adds that, for him, it was a moment in Hawaii. “I was in my friends wedding that took place in Hawaii and I asked Jean to come with me. The two of us took a very early morning hike to the Lanikai Pillboxes. These pillboxes are old war bunkers, now covered with art/graffiti; they sit atop the mountains so you get an amazing view of two smaller islands, and of course the vast ocean, just off the coast of Lanikai Beach. I have great pictures of the view, but my favorite picture I took is of Jean sitting on the pillbox looking at the horizon. That is the moment I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.”
Since Trent & Jean live in Omaha, we planned their engagement session for a weekend they would be in town visiting her family and doing some wedding planning. Unfortunately, this past Saturday was a full day of rain. I offered to shoot it anyway, knowing we could still get some really cute and romantic rainy shots, but they were happy to switch it instead to the next day and just hit the road back home after their session. That ended up being perfect and I’m so glad we were able to make the last minute reschedule (always trickier to do when travel is involved!).
Jean Louise and Trent love going on hikes so it made sense for Trent to propose to her while on vacation. “We traveled to South Dakota. We did ‘glamping’ at a really great place called Under Canvas. We could see Mount Rushmore from our campsite. On that Saturday, we hiked Black Elk Peak. I had researched just about every hike near us (I wanted to have an amazing view in the background) and this one was a no-brainer. When we reached the look out tower at the top, I scoped out a nice spot that would be good for a few photos. I told Jean I would go ask someone nearby to take out picture, which she thought was weird because we brought a selfie stick. I mentioned to this random person to keep shooting photos for a special moment. So we took a couple regular photos, then I grabbed the ring out of my bag, turned around and got down on one knee.”
“It was honestly one of the most perfect moments ever. I forgot there were people around, I was so focused on him,” she says.
