It was such an honor to be part of Jori & James’ day! It felt like a fun reunion for me since, just last year, I photographed James’ sister’s wedding so I got to see all the Larews again, plus a couple adorable additions!
Jori & James first met at the architecture firm where they both worked. That first year, they didn’t know each other very well, but became friends slowly over time as they worked together. They began officially dating in the fall of 2018, but they had hung out many times as friends–lunch or dinner after work–and it eventually became a relationship as they realized how they both felt.
Jori reached out to me a few weeks after Jean Louise & Trent’s wedding and they went ahead and booked their date with me prior to the actual proposal. Last September, they went to Greece and Jori “highly suspected” the proposal would happen on the trip. “We were in Santorini in a room with a private roof terrace and the views were incredible. While we were watching the sunset, he pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him. We were both so happy! It was a beautiful and perfect night and I loved that it was simple and private.”
For their wedding bands, both chose family pieces; James’ ring was his grandfather’s and Jori’s was her mother’s ring, who passed away earlier this year.
What you can’t see is that just to camera left were rows and rows of vehicles: cars, trucks, bike racks campers. There was a large bike race that day, starting and ending at Wilson’s and parking overtook the orchard. Thankfully, I was able to scope out a space where there was both good light and, with some careful positioning, a way to hide the crowded temporary parking lot!
I love that all the gentlemen just wore their own suits, any navy suit they already had in their closet! The various shades of dark blues coordinate so well without looking matchy and, more than anything, they’re all comfortable and fitted! I can’t tell you how many suit snafus there are on wedding days with something (pants, coat, shirt, shoes!) not fitting properly, despite fittings beforehand!
