Desiree and Ben first met in high school; they shared a lot of mutual friends. After high school, they went their separate ways to colleges, but kept in touch. “Eventually, Ben became one of my best friends,” Desiree said. They tested out the relationship waters by going on a date their sophomore year of college, but, though they both liked each other, they felt they were better as friends. A few years later, that friendship changed and this time, it was perfect. 

Ben’s family has vacationed in Northern Minnesota for decades and last year was the first year Des was able to go along. “We had just gotten into town and Ben’s mom suggested that the two of us go on a boat ride. I did not grow up around boats so I was on the back of the boat, looking around and checking out the ladder, which is hilarious to think about now. We were in the middle of the lake, the sun was setting, and I turned around to see Ben on one knee, asking me to marry him! I was extremely surprised; I didn’t see it coming! When we got back to the dock, everyone was waiting and cheering.”

They live in New Mexico and planning a wedding from afar is an entirely different type of process so they brought in some talented resources, starting with Abbey from Blissful Events. Together with Christopher from the Moline HyVee, Unique Events, and Hotel Blackhawk, the ballroom was transformed into the most stunning place Desiree could have ever dreamed of. Des had been gifted this heirloom ring from her grandmother. The ring itself is over one hundred year old and is beautiful.
