They met online in their third year of college and it didn’t take long for them to become a couple. When they had been together around 6 months, Lauren knew he was the one she would marry. “We went to Oktoberfest in Lacrosse, Wisconsin with his family. It was the first time I was meeting his older sister and her husband, who Matthew truly looks up to. During the weekend, I just remember having the most fun time together! Family means a lot to me so it was really important for me to see how he interacts with his family members. The weekend was just a fun time spent eating good food, drinking good Wisconsin beers, and driving around in a party bus (aka his parents RV). It was just so fun to be incorporated into his family and to see how loving they all were.”
Matthew proposed this past June, but he began planning the proposal in February. “The plan was to have her parents up to my cabin because it was a fun idea to have them there and my mom had never met her parents. I had secretly FaceTimed mine and her siblings about the date and how I was going to get them up there for the big day.
“I had told everyone to be ready in their places around 1-1:30, but the only problem with that time is Lauren is an early riser. To waste time in the morning, I had planned to take our parents to a nearby state park around 9 AM, but Lauren woke me up to leave early. So we started the day way ahead of schedule, doing things like having Lauren try and hit a baseball, taking long showers, and driving the long way to the cabin. Once we got there, I saw her sister’s car and her sisters and my brother sprinting around the corner as to not be seen, but Lauren missed all of that which was lucky. My mom proceeded to give a lengthy tour of the house to buy some time for my other brother to get in position for pictures and for my dad to move our pontoon out of the way. Once everything was in place, I texted my dad to confirm everything was ready and then walked Lauren out to the dock to propose.
“I had made a book of all of my favorite pictures of us and included things I had saved from our dates like a receipt, a cocktail sword, and a photo booth print off. The last page said, “This is where the rest of our life begins,” with a picture of the view of the lake from the place we were standing.”
They are both finishing up their final year of schooling–he is getting his masters in athletic training and she’s finishing pharmacy school–and then, right after graduation this next spring, they’ll get married! Lauren is doing a residency after that, but they don’t know where yet so, while some of their future plans are up in the air, they know wherever they end up, they’ll be together.
When I asked them what they admired most about the other, Lauren’s answer was, “how much Matthew cares about the people he loves! He will go out of his way to lend a helping hand to those he cares for. He also just cares so much about me and I can tell that he always has my best interest in mind. He truly does things for others without complaining and I love that about him.”
Matthew said about her, “She’s incredibly passionate. She is driven by her passion to be the best. She’s always looking to achieve perfection or near perfection, even when we get each other gifts; she knows exactly what to get because she wants to make it special.”
