Hi, I'm Emily.

Their friends set them up because friends always know what’s best for you. Is that how the saying goes? Well, in this case anyway, they turned out to be spot on. Clayton’s brother-in-law, Travis (along with a group of others) had talked about setting Jacayla and Clayton up at a wedding they would all be attending. “Nobody told us,” Jacayla said. “Travis did the heavy lifting at the wedding and pushed us together on the dance floor, saying, ‘This might be awkward at first,’ before he walked away.” That was July 16th and one month later, on August 16th, they started dating. “The rest is history!”

They both enjoy being outdoors, preferably together. Jacayla listed one of her favorite dates as going fishing, having a camp fire, cooking hot dogs and s’mores, and watching the sunset. So when it came to their engagement session, it made sense to take pictures on a dirt road and creek by her parents’ land in Washington (also a place Jacayla used to play endlessly as a kid). It was so windy that afternoon, but we found enough tree coverage to help with hair blowing, though we were all dusty by the end.

Their dog, Kyle, was in on the proposal, which was just two weeks ago! On a Sunday morning, they went to church together, then went to lunch with some of Jacayla’s family. Afterwards, they went home to take Kyle for a walk. “I went to change,” Jacayla said. “When I came downstairs Clayton was kneeling and Kyle was sitting beside him. He said, ‘Kyle and I have something to ask you.’ I was in complete shock!”

It was so much fun to hang out with them this past weekend! It’s so easy to photograph people who are so genuinely comfortable with each that the camera becomes an after thought. We were basically just having fun and I happened to take pictures of it all. 😉 (They may say differently, but I promise, I just gave cues and they were adorable.)
