I cannot believe it’s been almost 5 years since their gorgeous wedding at Glen Oaks! Their sunset photos that day had to be some of the best and that was due, in part to the location and in part to the perfection of Iowa fall colors. I’ll always remember their wedding day with a smile on my face. (The extra fun part was that we also shot their engagement session at Glen Oaks and used some of those same spots for their day, the lovely juxtaposition of engaged vs married in the same spot!)

It was so much fun to see them again and catch up on life. Lucas has the same dry humor and Kristal has the same gorgeous laugh. It was such fun to reminisce and laugh and find beautiful spots for their photos now, 5 years later.

One year ago, these two were married under a beautiful canopy of trees in a Disney-inspired wedding at Rapid Creek Cidery. I still get swoony when I look back at that day. The florals that draped over practically everything (including floral crowns for all the bridesmaids!), that masterpiece of a cake that was the statement centerpiece of the reception, the larger than human size fairytale book that was hand-drawn by the groom at the entrance, the princess ballgown with layers upon layers of tulle…it was everything that Shannon and Ted had dreamed of and it was so much fun to photograph for their memories!

Now they are one year into marriage and wanted to celebrate with an anniversary session! We met out at the fossil gorge on a ridiculously humid evening last weekend with the perk being that no one else wanted to be outside so we had the place to ourselves!

One year ago, we celebrated their wedding on a beautiful, summery Friday afternoon. As they approached their first anniversary, Kristin reached out to me to see about doing an anniversary shoot and it worked out so perfectly in our schedules that we ended up being able to do it on their actual anniversary. I cannot tell you what an honor it is to be able to not only celebrate a couple’s marriage with them, but then to get to celebrate their first anniversary as well? It was such a joy.

We threw around a few ideas, including going back to Rapid Creek Cidery, where they got married, or having them put on their wedding clothes again, but ultimately, this ended up being perfect: a summery shoot in the Fossil Gorge, giving them an entirely unique gallery of images.

Happy first anniversary, Kristin & Bryce! I am so happy for you guys and the love you have within your own new family unit. It was so much getting to do this all over again with you and I am so honored to be part of so many milestones in your life together.
