Christmas Eve brings with it some traditions. One tradition is my gift exchange with my sister, Carla. We’ve been doing this for several years. It started because my parents postponed Christmas presents one year until several days after Christmas and we were outraged so we started our own Christmas exchange which is now an annual Christmas Eve tradition. Since Carla is in Ohio this year, we did our gift exchange via Skype.
The next little treat was a book that I absolutely love. It sounds corny–“The Love Between Sisters”–but it is filled with quotes, poems, and excerpts from writings about sisters. I wish that I could write them all out, but obviously that would be the entire book and I won’t do that. Here’s one that I love (by the way, most of these make me cry!): “When you’re around I laugh more and I need that because I tend to be so serious minded. You have a way of finding humor in anything.” (Coretta Scott King, in a letter to her sister, Edythe) And here’s another one: “To have a loving relationship with a sister is not simply to have a buddy or confidante; it is to have a soul mate for life.” (Victoria Secunda)
I got a great bracelet which is making an appearance on my arm currently. And lastly, I got a SNUGGIE! How long have I made fun of these? Years. But I have joined the Snuggie crew now as an official OSU Snuggie owner. I was so excited, I think I might have screamed a little bit. It’s the blanket that has sleeves!
Prior to all of these gift festivities, Kevin and I had our 2nd annual Christmas Eve dinner. I think we stuck to the same menu, but it remained just as good. Glazed ham, corn, baked mashed potatoes, bread, and cracker fluff. It was a lot of work, but it was delicious! A perk is that we know how about 9 pounds of ham in the freezer to keep pulling out throughout the next few months.
Tomorrow is the Miller family Christmas! (Complete with more Skyping with Carla and Arneelius.) Sleep good and leave some cookies out for Santa.
