It’s August 2020 and this is my first, full-day wedding this year. (Thank you, pandemic.) Also, as irony would have it, I’ve been editing these images and prepping this blog post while simultaneously working without power (thank you, limited laptop battery, for getting me through a few of the hours!), internet, and cell service, thanks to the derecho that swept through Iowa on Monday, just two days after Natalie & Greg got married. As I was prepping my gear for their wedding last week, I was finding all my stuff exactly as I had left it after my last full wedding, last November in Puerto Rico, and I jokingly thought, “Do I remember how to do this? It’s been so long!”
I remember having so much fun with Natalie and Greg at their engagement session last fall at Greg’s family’s land and I was so excited to be able to do it all over again on their wedding day, but maybe even more so because this couple has weathered a really tremendous year of decision-making (postpone? carry on?) as all 2020 couples have dealt with. Their final decision, obviously, was to move forward with the wedding and to be married as planned. It was such a joy to witness the beginning of their marriage and to see the love and care that was poured into them as a couple and also into their wedding day, be it as much or not what they had originally envisioned.
