They met in the summer of 2016 through a mutual friend. Brooke doesn’t remember exactly how they coordinated their first meeting, but she does remember that they drove around the countryside and small town in Wyatt’s truck, talking and driving for hours and finding out they had a lot in common. “Wyatt has always been a sincere and loving guy,” she said. “But it wasn’t until we went to his house at the Lake of the Ozarks where I met his mom for the first time and hung out with the rest of his family that I felt he was going to be the one.”
After dating for over four years, Brooke said she knew a proposal would be coming at some point, but she had no idea when. “We had talked about getting married and the plans we had for a life together, but month after month kept going by and nothing happened.”
“It was the night of December 23rd,” Brooke described. “We had our Christmas presents wrapped for each other under the tree at his home. He looked at me that night and asked if we should open the gifts we got for each other. He was so excited that he opened the gifts I got him first and then he handed me my gift. It looked like a wrapped shoe box. As I started opening it, I noticed it was rather lightweight. When I got it open, there was another (smaller) box inside. I laughed and even made comment in the moment that it was a carburetor box and joked about him getting me a gift he wanted for Christmas. I opened the carburetor box and there was another smaller box wrapped inside. When I unwrapped it, I immediately saw the jewelry store logo on the box and was shocked! I think I blacked out for a minute with a blank stare on my face because he looked at me and asked, ‘Are you happy?!’ I said, ‘YES!’ He proceeded to get down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the sweetest proposal, and I love it so much because I was so surprised! I appreciated the intimacy of it just being the two of us, and getting to take time to call family and friends for the rest of the evening!”
Brooke and Wyatt wanted their engagement session to be soon, but didn’t necessarily want an outdoor, snowy session. Brooke loves modern architecture and clean lines so I knew the Voxman Music Hall would be the perfect spot to achieve that look! I adore shooting inside the Voxman and love that we were able to do almost their entire session there on a calm, empty weekend. (We also got to use the Visual Arts Building for a similar, yet different look!) We had so much fun together and they brought an amazing sense of style to their session. (Definitely peeping Brooke’s cream sweater with the tulle sleeve detail!)
They are getting married later this summer and I’m so excited to celebrate their wedding with them! (I’ve done wedding photos for several of their friends so I’m looking forward to the reunion aspect as well!)
