It was the perfect way to end the year–literally–with Amy and Jace! When we did their engagement shoot last winter, a year away seemed like so long! But it snuck right up and Amy and I were messaging back and forth about how excited we were to see each other again and, obviously, for the entire wedding day.
Amy & Jace had met at a mutual friend’s house during a CyHawk football game, a big in-state rivalry between Iowa and Iowa State. Both of them knew very early in their relationship that this would be their forever. Jace described the first time they had really talked. “I had been trying to figure out a way to talk to her since the game in the fall and this was the first chance. I had added her as a friend on Facebook and she had posted that she had bought a house so that night, I asked her how owning a house was, and we talked for most of the evening about various things. I eventually wound up playing the game Codenames and she sat on the couch behind me. I leaned back to think about my clue and we made eye contact. That moment lives in my head.”
To bid 2024 farewell, Iowa was appropriately freezing, but, as Amy said, “We knew it would be when we picked the season!” So we bundled and got the most beautiful portraits outside. It’s such a mad dash of quick photography in cold-weather weddings that I don’t often get to appreciate the beauty fully in the moment so when I am editing the photos later, I am just completely heart-eyes over all that we got. This whole wedding made me swoon even after the fact. We’ve got disco balls, a golden retriever, velvet ties, a sparkly ballgown, and classic black dresses and suits. It cannot get better!
