If you know your pop culture references, you’ll know why April 25th is the perfect date; “it’s not too hot, not too cold, and you only need a light jacket.” For Laura and JD, April 25th was their perfect date to celebrate love after loss. “We are both widowed, so we understand the journey of losing a spouse. When you’re widowed, your spouse never really leaves you.” And while their losses will stay with them, they have also found new happiness together.
They got married at the Mississippi River Distilling Company in Le Claire, a family owned and operated distillery that also has a beautiful celebration center with both modern features and historical character. The venue sits right along the Mississippi River and was new to me; an absolute delight!

We took a few photos outside, but it was very (very) windy and cold that day so I advised that we stick closer to the venue space (there was a great area inside in the basement with beautiful natural light) so that everyone would stay comfortable and hair, dresses, etc. would stay in place. I know how much Laura really loved the wedding being along the river though so I’m glad that in the end, we got a couple out there.

Laura’s granddaughter, Reese, was the true star of the show. Laura’s request was that I get lots of photos of her, which I was happy to grant.

There is an outdoor rooftop ceremony space, but due to the weather, they opted to bring the ceremony inside.
