I never saw what the wind chill was last Friday, but the temperature hit around 19°F and the wind was bitter on top of that. Annie definitely wanted outdoor photos and had done all the prep work for it, including getting rechargeable hand warmers (that conveniently were hidden in the pockets of her gown), fur mittens and stole, and warm socks to wear with her Allbirds wool sneakers.
Nothing can truly prepare you for the bite of winter wind on exposed skin and so I moved as quickly as I could to get as many photos as possible in as little time as possible in order to get people back indoors. Annie and Josh didn’t complain! In fact, when groupings came out in a different order, which meant Annie didn’t get the break I had intended for her to get, Annie said to just keep going!
Annie and Josh first met because of a set up through Josh’s twin sister, Katie. Annie and Katie are both in dental school and Katie had insisted Annie and Josh needed to meet. It finally happened at an Iowa football tailgate. With the combination of Annie showing up late and drinks being involved, Annie wasn’t sure Josh would remember who she was. “I had a decent amount to drink when she showed up to the tailgate, but no where near enough to forget meeting her,” Josh said. “Little did I know,” Annie added, “He very much remembered me and was hoping to see me again.”
They began dating shortly after and Annie said, “Honestly, I was 90% sure that I was going to marry him after that first date.” It didn’t take much longer for Josh. “I think I knew she was the one for sure after I took her home for the first time. She just worked so well with my family.”
The proposal was a huge success, not just because she said yes, but because it involved both of their families! You can read about it here.
Aren’t these colors perfect for a snowy fall/winter wedding?! Also, velvet textures are my favorite trend this past year!
The temperature was definitely dropping by this time, but we had a few minutes to pop back outside after the ceremony before we lost sunlight for some extra photos and I’m so glad we got these!!!
