They first met in junior high. Seventh grade band class, to be exact. Their first date was years later, “sometime freshman year of college.” Neither of them can remember it. Calvary said, “I feel like it was a simply dinner and a movie, however, after a while, we became unsure what we actually did.” So naturally, they redid their first date three years later when they were living in Chicago. They went out to dinner and then to Navy Pier afterwards. Kesha said, “It was lovely and funny to have a redo.”

Calvary proposed in 2021 in a sunflower farm, “somewhere I always wanted to go to and a slight hint from years ago that I thought would be amazing to be proposed to in one,” Kesha said.

“The flower field was not as big as I expected,” Calvary explained. “I was disappointed, but too nervous to do anything about it. I was focused on finding my photographer friend in the crowd. Once I did, I was focused on getting everything lined up. It was difficult and, after a while, I felt almost rushed. I had to propose soon and so I got down on one knee and asked her. She claims that she knew the whole time…”

“I had my suspicions leading up to the weekend…”

“But even still, she seemed shocked. I didn’t get a yes right away, but I began to put the ring on her finger and got clarification that she meant yes. The rest is history.”

Kesha added, “The best part was coming back to our condo with tons of our friends from across the country there to surprise me, which truly took me by complete surprise which is exactly what I would have wanted. Although Calvary did not stall for long enough for them to be prepared or even all there at that moment, the idea of it all is a very special memory of mine.”

Kesha and Calvary were back in Iowa City this past weekend to get a bunch of wedding stuff done, which included meeting up with me for engagement photos! I had the very best evening walking around the city with them! I absolutely cannot wait to celebrate with them this September at their wedding!!!

We got to stop at all kinds of cute spots, including Kesha’s college dorm!
