I remember when I met Maddison. I was photographing Jessica and Chase’s wedding details and Maddison, a bridesmaid, was in the room with me, steaming gowns. As I recall, she told me she doesn’t like to sit around so she was keeping busy, being helpful. We chatted about how she knew Jess, her full medical school schedule, and how she’s single because she “doesn’t have time.” Haha. THE IRONY. Little did she know that a groomsman at that very wedding would be her future husband. They just needed to meet. Jessica made sure they did and Aaron took the initiative after that.
“We had been together for a while but since I was in the midst of medical school, our first date in-person date wasn’t until May 2022. Aaron drove down to Centerville, Iowa where my parents live and where I was studying for my board exam to take me out to lunch. I was pretty giddy though I don’t think I’ve ever told him that,” Maddison said.
“We sat in her parents living room and talked for a couple hours after lunch.” Aaron added, “She then kicked me out because she was studying for first round of medical boards. Definitely a love at first sight kind of deal. I told her from that day forward I knew I was going to marry her.”
“Last March, I started feeling that he was my person. We had been ‘together’ since August, but with school, I kind of brushed him off. Something for me all of a sudden just switched. I can’t say there was something specific that just made me know. After March, it just began snowballing. He also started telling me in April that he was going to marry me and it just made me laugh.” This was all before their first in-person date! Swoon.
At the time when they booked with me, they weren’t yet officially engaged (they had the wedding date!) so I was super excited to find out how Aaron was going to ask. I knew he had the ring! “Not yet engaged,” he had said. “BUT I do have the ring! Really just trying to find the best time and place to do it. Our schedules are tough and I want it to be special even though she doesn’t care at all. I’m shooting for around Thanksgiving, but we will see!”
And that’s exactly what happened!
Maddison described it afterwards: “He was visiting me for Thanksgiving. I had planned us a trip to the Canterbury Village Holiday Stroll to see the Christmas Lights because he was calling me a Grinch for not putting any Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving (which I did that Wednesday before). I also love Christmas lights and act like a little kid when I see them. We walked through the stroll once, which maybe took about 15 minutes, soaking up all the fun lights. After we finished walking through so quickly, we decided to go back through again while we were there. On the second pass through, he wanted to take a picture in front of one of the spots they had set up for pictures. The picture turned into a proposal! I came to find out he called my parents that morning to ask their permission and they had been avoiding talking to me all day so they wouldn’t spoil the surprise.”
I loved spending time with these two. It’s so obvious how perfect they are together. When I asked what their best date was, Maddison said, “I don’t have a favorite. I love doing everything with him.” And I think that sums up so well their relationship. They are both incredibly busy–he’s an airline captain and she’s finishing up medical school–but they find each other and make time for each other in the in between and I know the life they build together is going to be so special and beautiful.
The inside of her engagement ring is engraved with her future title: Dr. Weber.
