Hi, I'm Emily.

They met online because she was bored and downloaded the dating app as a joke. She had set the radius to 100 miles and that’s exactly how far apart their addresses were. “I was alone in my dorm room when I saw someone had liked my profile. I looked through his pictures and saw one of him standing on his kitchen counter, which intrigued me. I also saw we had a lot in common so I thought, ‘Why not?’ His grand opening line was, ‘What games to do you?’ So we talked and played video games until 6am the next morning. We did that about 4 days in a row.”

“Our first date started at the Coral Ridge Mall,” Magnus recalls. “I nervously sat constantly checking my phone, then not-so-casually checking every entrance for Amanda and then going back to my phone. After doing that for about 15 minutes, she walked in the entrance by the merry-go-round. My heart was racing and every second felt like 10 minutes. By the time she finally sat down, it felt like centuries had gone by. We sat and talked for a while, and then I was promptly dragged into hot topic for the first time in my life. Amanda showed me the buttons and pins section and we bought a ton. We then went out to her car and stuck them into her car’s sun visor. We drove to downtown Iowa City and parked at the Tower Parking garage and got boba tea. She got a video of me attempting to stab my straw into the tea. We got dinner at Pagliais Pizza and ate it on top of the parking garage. It was kinda windy and cold so we bought a blanket and snuggled up together and watched Who’s Line snippets for a while.” (When they told me about this, I said, “Well, we have to go back to that parking garage!”)

Amanda says she had a feeling the proposal was happening because, “he is very bad at hiding his planning. On the day of the of our one year anniversary, we went to sit on the top of the parking garage we had our first date on, but the parking garage was closed due to construction. He talked about delaying and I had to be patient on the proposal. I had a feeling that it was going to be that day, so I had gone and bought a cute dress, just in case, you know? After we got pizza and went up to the roof, I could tell he was so nervous, which in turn made me really nervous.” So on the rooftop of a nearby parking garage to the one they had their first date on, he proposed.

Their engagement session was split between two locations: a setting she really loves (being in nature) and a setting he really loves (being downtown). It was a perfect mix and seeing the two of them together was just beautiful. They are so comfortable and tender with each other.
