June swept in pretending to be August. Thankfully, we had preplanned shaded areas for photos and Alyson and Drew had also planned for their ceremony to be indoors at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center. (The typical outdoor spot is in the full sun, not a wedge of shade in sight.) Sweaty, but happy, were we all!
Alyson and Drew technically met in the Iowa marching band, though they had never really interacted during their college years. After college, they connected online. When Alyson saw they had a mutual friend, she texted to see what info she could get on this guy. “She said he’s great and she wasn’t wrong!” They’ve been together since 2019 and have weathered so much life together already, including a global pandemic, but even more personal, the devastating deaths of Alyson’s father and grandfather. Additionally, when they had been dating just 6 months, Drew got a job in Kansas City and the next four and a half years were long distance until Alyson was able to move there as well. “Throughout all of it, Drew was there for me for everything. Even though he lived over four hours away, I always felt like he was there for me,” Alyson said.

Alyson had a locket tied to her bouquet with a photo inside of her and her dad.

Alyson’s brother, Blake, walked her down the aisle.

And the flower girl found a new use for her basket.

The dance floor was a whole vibe, but I pulled Alyson and Drew outside for a tiny little break and some additional photos.
